As if this year hasn’t been stressful enough, raise your hand if you are feeling an extra sense of pressure to get all the things crossed off your holiday list early this year. Is your hand raised way up high? Are you waving it around? SAME.
So, let’s look at that 2020 Holiday to-do list, shall we? Gift shopping (socially distanced of course), decorating (mainly outside this year, so that people can enjoy your creative touch without actually having to actually go inside your house) and probably the most important one, the Christmas card photo (because hey, this is going to be the best way to spread Holiday love with all your friends and family).
For us, taking the kids to see Santa is always so much fun. Not only do they get to see the big man himself, but we manage to get some really cute shots to send to family, use as a Christmas card and in my case, share socially!
Needless to say, I was already starting to worry about how we were going to get these photos done this year, so I was thrilled to learn that The North Pole Picture Co. opened a pop-up photography shop just in time for Christmas in Park Royal’s South exterior (across from Sephora).
We were lucky enough to get an early appointment and wow, it did not disappoint. To be honest, I think this might be my new favourite way to get photos done and my usually photo resistant husband ended up enjoying it too! Talk about a win/win. Plus, it was a great excuse to get some Holiday outfits for the girls (and myself of course).
The lovely shop has set up 4 separate scenes for families to get their pictures taken by an incredibly talented team (both as photographers and kid/husband/dog wranglers – Yes! We got to bring our big furry guy too)! As we Moms well know, it can be tough to get everyone sitting and smiling, but the team was so patient and made the whole experience so smooth and easy.
Here’s how it works:
1. You book your family an appointment online and can choose from either 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of the backgrounds. TIP: You need to book each background individually, so if you want all 4, you need to book 4 appointments (15 minutes each). We only ended up doing 3 of them, but there is now a really cool New Year’s Eve theme background you can pick from as well.
2. The North Pole Picture Co. is following strict COVID protocols, so you’ll need to arrive with your mask on (and keep it on until your portraits start), as well as sanitize upon entering. You can also find their full COVID policy here: NorthPolePictureCo.com
3. Social distancing is also very important, so you’ll always be at least 6 feet from the photographer and her team. All visits to the space are by reservation only, so your family will be the only guests during your appointment.
4. Once you’re done your photos, you’ll head up to the front desk to decide what photo packages you want to buy (see price list below), as well as select from any frames or ornaments that can be made up for you!
As a personal tip, I’d highly recommend renting out the space for your whole family. You can bring up to 6 people, plus your pet and have the whole studio to yourselves, so you can shoot many different photos, do quick outfit changes and really lean into having your very own professional photo session. In my opinion, this is a steal at $300/hour as you can get
